KS Washable Reusable Air Filters

From the sameKS Reusable Air Filter people who brought you Devil racing exhausts and KS Oil Filters, KS reusable air filters are now available for a wide variety of models as an upgraded replacement to the original filter.

KS air filters offer superior air flow and filtration compared to the original paper or foam air filter supplied as original equipment, and are washable and reusable, rather than throwing yet another disposable air filter onto the landfill at every service.

On a paper filter, filtration is high because of the high surface area from the pleated shape and dense material, but air flow is low – not only are the holes in paper of irregular size and shape, but they are spaced further apart than in a foam filter. This means that less air can get through the filter, but also, when a particle becomes trapped by the paper filter, it blocks that hole. The air flow from the paper filter will steadily get worse with use as more holes are blocked. Paper fibres will swell in moisture, further restricting air flow.

Particles travelling through a foam filter are not trapped by being too big to get through the fibres; they are ‘caught’ by the sticky oil on the fibres. This means that the fibres can be spaced further apart than in a paper filter, for greater air flow. Furthermore, these trapped particles can also help filtration by reducing the space for other particles to get through, without a severe impact on air flow until the filter is very dirty indeed. However, a soft foam filter can become distorted when under pressure, and this distortion can shake loose trapped particles and actually push them further into the system.KS Reusable Air Filter for CBR 1000

A KS air filter takes the advantages of both foam and paper filters, but uses several layers of oiled cotton instead. These are held rigid by steel mesh, so the above distortion does not occur and trapped particles stay in the filter where they belong. The cotton fibres do not swell as paper fibres are prone to do, while the pleated shape increases surface area and therefore filtration.

Better filtration protects your engine, while higher air flow makes for higher efficiency which can increase performance and often decrease fuel consumption (depending on conditions).

Standard KS replacement filters feature 4 layers of cotton. Race KS replacement filters have only 2 layers, for increased air flow, however fuel management modifications will be required for optimum performance.
